I don't think it ever specified in the books, so this may have to be a discussion. Do retired leaders keep their nine lives, or do they somehow lose them when they become an elder and go down to only one?

Leaders don't retire. We found that out from Tallstar. He died from old age, remember? So most likely they don't retire.

If the leaders do reitre, I'd guess they would keep their lives. What would be the harm of it? The elders don't usually fight and if they live until the day they were supposed to die without lives, they'd lose a life, and then the next day, they'd probably lose another life. Every extra day would be another life. That's my guess. Leaders should be able to retire. xP

-shrugs- But it makes sense. Tallstar was OLD when he finally died, he probably died of natural causes ( i think he did, from what i remember ) so... eh. I don't have the patience to write up Freedom anyways.
